The Hair course we offer is also the most practical available, giving students a real-life introduction to the working practice of a salon. Much of the specification covers Health & Safety and working with clients. There are also practical elements of styling and temporary colouring. Cutting hair is not allowed in this course.
The VTCT Level 2 Extended Certificate in Hair and Beauty Skills (VRQ) is a vocationally related qualification that will prepare you to become a hairdressing apprentice in the hairdressing industry.
Intent
The Vtct Hair and Beauty course at Saint George's CofE School is an ideal course for creative and hardworking students who are passionate about style and beauty. The curriculum is designed to allow students to be creative, learn new skills, and work in a safe salon environment. The Vtct level 1 - 2 qualification is challenging and incorporates both practical skills and subject knowledge in depth.
Implementation
The Hair and Beauty course is taught within a well-equipped salon with modern equipment by a qualified hairdresser. Students throughout the course have the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills throughout a range of practical tasks, allowing for theory-based learning to be applied individually and also in group lead activities.
We ensure that SEND and disadvantaged children are given the necessary support in class to access the Curriculum fully and that equal opportunities are given to all.
Impact
The VTCT Hair and Beauty course builds resilience in students, it encourages them to be responsible, mature and professional while working in a realistic salon environment.
After completing the VTCT course, students can pursue a Level 3 course in Further Education Institutions leading to securing jobs within the industry, as self-employed practitioners: running their own salons, leading to successful careers within the hair and beauty sector.
