Work Experience

Work experience allows a student to develop key employability skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, communication, and time management that employers look for.

Why is it important?

  • Good experience for students to experience life in a place of work.

  • Learn valuable life skills.

  • Work experience will form part of your CV.

  • Employers, schools, and universities like to see that a student has experienced the world of work.

  • Fun experience.

  • Statistics show that if young people experience the workplace more than once, their GCSE results improve.

  • If you don’t know what career path to take, then this is a great way of having a go at a job before you decide.

  • You may also be able to go back to the company once you have passed your exams and secured an apprenticeship.

The Year 10 work experience dates for 2025 are 14th – 18th July 2025. Any student who does not secure a work experience placement and returns a completed agreement form will be required to attend school during this week.

How to arrange a placement

Students must find their own work experience placement and ensure they hand in a fully completed work experience agreement form to The Careers Team.

We can only authorise work experience placements where the employer has Employers’ Liability Insurance (even if a family member). A copy of Employers’ Liability Insurance MUST be either emailed to Mrs Hallam or a photocopy handed in by a student.

We will only authorise placements based in the UK.

Please note that without the completed forms, you will not be able to get any work experience.

If you seek Virtual Work Experience, Speakers for Schools and Spring Pod have some excellent opportunities.
