Celebrating Excellence at Saint George’s C of E Secondary Phase
Saint George’s C of E Secondary Phase recently hosted two outstanding events: the Year 11 and Year 13 Celebrations of Achievement. These ceremonies were a moment to celebrate the dedication and success of our students, as well as the commitment of our staff. The morning was filled with inspiring speeches, music, and the recognition of exceptional achievements.
Year 11 Celebration of Achievement
The Year 11 event followed shortly after, with students celebrated for their hard work and academic successes. Prizes were awarded for attainment and progress, with Ted J., Sophie P. and others receiving Year 11 Attainment awards. Subject prizes included Jasmine D. for Art, Yana P. for Business, Grace W. for English, and Ted J. for Mathematics. Other prize winners included Sammy P. for IT, Joshua N for Computing, Sophie P. for Humanities, and Georgia W. for Performing Arts.
Special awards included the Elliot-Rose Hornby Prize for Reading Champion, awarded to Ayodeji A., and the Irun Kalsi Prize for Music, presented to Gabriel M. in memory of a beloved member of our community.
Year 13 Celebration of Achievement
The Year 13 celebration began with an opening prayer by Lucy Norman, Chair of Governors, followed by an address and a musical performance. Mr. Matthew Baker, Deputy Headteacher, presented the Sixth Form Prizes and Certificates, recognising students' academic excellence, such as Harvey A., Bluebelle H., Isobel M., and Bryan S., who received the Year 13 Attainment awards. Additionally, students like Thomas L. and Isabella R. were acknowledged for their significant progress during their time in Sixth Form.
A highlight of the evening was the address by guest speaker Miya Macdonald, a former Saint George’s student. Miya shared her inspiring journey from GCSEs at Saint George’s to achieving a first-class joint honours degree in Law with American Studies at university. She is now training to become a barrister and has won the prestigious Mooting and Debating competition twice. Her message of resilience and setting high goals resonated deeply with our students. Miya also mentors Rojin, one of our current head students.
Staff Recognition
Staff members who demonstrated exceptional commitment to their professional development were also recognised at this event. Mr. Simon Murphy, Executive Headteacher, presented awards to staff for completing advanced leadership qualifications. These qualifications reflect the dedication of our staff to continuously improving their teaching and leadership skills, ensuring the best outcomes for our students.
The Celebrations of Achievement were a testament to the hard work and dedication of both students and staff at Saint George’s. With role models like Miya Macdonald and the continuous support of our staff, we are confident that our students are well-prepared for the future. Congratulations to all our graduates, prize winners, and staff; your achievements are truly inspiring.
